Design & Development
We collaborate with researchers, technology companies, museums, and artists to develop technically ambitious projects from early concepts through fabrication and deployment. Much of this work involves custom scientific equipment, sensing systems, experimental apparatus, and public installations that require close integration of design, engineering, and manufacturing.
Typical work
Design work we do with our partners includes:
- Custom experimental rigs and sensor platforms
- Environmental test equipment
- Scientific and optical instrumentation
- Public exhibits and science-based installations
- Kinetic and light-based sculpture
- Custom tools for difficult manual assembly or manipulation tasks
- Prototype development for grant-funded research
We are most effective on projects that require close collaboration with field experts, require unconventional manufacturing approaches, or evolve substantially during development. Our in-house machining and fabrication capabilities allow us to move quickly from concept to functional hardware.
Much of our design work for industrial partners is custom, exploratory, or confidential in nature.
